Mac Gift

We've established a philanthropic scheme called Mac Gift. Simply put, it's a re-use of technology that makes everyone feel good. Older Macs than are no longer wanted can be dropped off to the shop. We then erase the original customers data and upgrade the computer ready to be gifted to a local not for profit organisation.

Groups who have received a Mac Gift in the past include:

  • Australian Seabird Rescue
  • Breastfeeding Australia
  • Realising Every Dream (RED INC) disability services
  • Lismore Lantern Parade

To donate a computer simply drop in into the shop. To receive a computer, email us and let us know how your organisation/community group could use a pre-loved Mac.

Environment

PowerMax Computers has a strong commitment to preserving our beautiful and life giving natural environment. We won the Lismore Chamber of Commerce Most Environmentally Friendly Business in 2009 because of our beliefs, and more importantly, our actions.

Solar Generation

As a business we sell and utilise products that use energy, and to offset that in early 2010 we installed a 4.5KW solar array on our shop roof. This is over two times our energy use and we are proud to be generating energy from the sun that we can share with others.

Waste Wise

In April 2010 we were awarded with all 5 stars in the Lismore City Council's Waste Wise Star Certified Program. It acknowledges businesses who make an effort to reduce, reuse and recycle. At PowerMax we reduce the resources we use, reuse what we can and then recycle everything else!

eWaste

eWaste is a huge issue both locally and internationally and we are proud to involved with a change in policy that is making a difference. In 2008 we started a petition requesting that the local council stop allowing eWaste into landfill, and instead co-ordinate transporting it to an appropriate dismantling facility.

Over 300 of our customers signed this petition and shortly after Lismore City Council rose to the challenge and became one of the first tips to recycle eWaste all year round. There is no extra fee when dropping off your old technology, just sort it into groups and take it to the right section (ask the friendly fellas at the tip if you are not sure).

eWaste that can now be recycled at Lismore Tip includes:

  • computers
  • batteries
  • cables
  • screens
  • phones
  • used CDs and DVDs

Rainforest Rescue

Since 2007 we have made a monthly donation to Rainforest Rescue, an organisation based in Mullumbimby who do great environmental work. Locally they assist revegetate the Big Scrub with the Plant a Rainforest Scheme, and further afield in the Daintree, Indonesia and Ecuador they identify and purchases rainforest at risk of development and protect it forever by converting the properties into Nature Refuges and removing all development rights.

Australian Orangutan Project

Another eco project that our business supports is the Australian Orangutan Project who care for nearly 1000 Orangutans who have been orphaned or displaced by development in South East Asia. The aim is care for them while infants, then release them back into the wild. Therefore AOP have been involved with establishing National Parks and wildlife sanctuaries so there is a safe place for release. Over the last 4 years we have adopted 6 orphans and followed their progress as they learn how to forage, build nests and wrestle with their friends.
